St John

In Room 5 a lady from St John came and showed us what to do when we find someone unconscious.  Everybody in my class had to make a drawing about what we learnt.

Self-Portrait

This is my self-portrait. I used oil pastels for colouring in my face and my background.  One thing I found difficult was putting the eyes in the right place.  One of the things that I learnt was where to put the lines to show where to put features like eyebrows and eyelashes.

At Awahono School each year we have a Pet Day. In Room 5 we had to write an explanation about Pet Day. We had to write about 4 or more different paragraphs that we thought of. We also had to make notes about those paragraphs that we had chosen.

What is Pet Day?

Every year Awahono School has a pet day for all the pets. Most of the kids from the school bring a pet to school to show them all off.  

Pets

At Pet Day children bring a lot of different kinds of pets.  Some of the animals can be house pets or farm pets.  The house pets can include cats, birds and mice.  The farm pets can be some different kinds of baby calves, sheep and even baby goats.

Judging

At Pet Day some people that volunteer to be a judge come around and ask you about your pet.  When you get judged the judges give you points for different things like for the posters and all of the queshon about your pets.  With all the points that you can get a prize for first, second and third.  When you get first, second or third you get a bag that has some prizes inside of it.

Activities  

At Pet Day there are some different activities that you can choose from. Most of the activities are run by the teachers from Awahono School.  They are also run in the class that the teacher runs most of the time.  At the end of those activities you have a break and then move to the other activities that you have chosen.

        Conclusion

In conclusion, I think that Pet Day is a fun way to show off your pets and to try and win some prizes for the best pet and for best poster. This is a also a fun way to learn a bit more about your pet.

The History of the Olympic Games

In Room 5 we had to do some research on the Olympics. We had to get information about the history of the Olympics. Here is what I found out about the history of the Olympics.

The History of the Olympic Games

The Olympic Games originated in Greece as many as 3,000 years ago.  The Olympic Games were firstly a part of a religious  festival in Greece. In the first Olympic Games only men could compete in them and married women could not watch the Olympics. The Olympics would only go for a few days like 1 to 4 days. After a long time the Olympics were banned because the Emperor Theodosius saw the Olympics games, which represented the Greek God Zeus, as an offense to Emperor Theodosius’s Christian religion.  

The Olympics came back in 1894. The man named Baron  Pierre De Coubertin was the man who was responsible for reviving the Games.  Baron Pierre De Coubertin was from France.  The first modern Olympic Games came in 1896 two years after Baron Pierre De Coubertin wanted the Olympics to come back.

Every four years the Olympics are held in a different place like in 2020 in Tokyo.  The 2024 Olympic are going to be held in Los Angeles and so on.  Most countries compete in the Olympics, some don’t go but they are welcome to come and play at the Olympics. This year (2016) the Olympics were held in Rio De Janeiro.

What are the Olympic Games?

At the Olympics people from all over the world come to a different country to compete to win a medal.  The countries send their top athletes to compete.  Every four years it is held in some other country. The first ever Olympics were held in Greece.

At the Olympics there are some different medals to win like gold, silver and bronze.  Gold is for first place, silver is for second so that means bronze is for third place.  The gold medal is not solid gold - it is silver with a coat of gold over it.

There are lots of different sports to do at the Olympics.  Some of the sports are rowing, shot put, shooting, cycling and many more different sports.  In the rowing New Zealand won a gold medal in 2016.  The two people that won it were Hamish Bond and Eric Murray.

In conclusion in the Olympics people from all over the world come to do different sports, every 4 years. They all try to win one of the three different kinds of medals called gold, silver and bronze.

Awahono School Mini Olympics

On Friday the 19th of August Awahono School held Mini Olympics.  We had a lot of different fun games that Room Six put up for us like tug of war, moon hoppers and a lot of different ones.  In this photo it has most of Room 5's kids in it most of them have a medal we won.  We had gold, silver and bronze medals that we won.
